If you are overweight or obese, as one in three Americans are according to the government, you may want to think about losing weight before the nanny state mandates it.
On Monday, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force instructed doctors to identify patients with a body mass index of 30 or more and either provide counseling or put them in programs designed to reduce weight.
Obama’s health care scheme – now awaiting judgement by the Supreme Court – requires private health care providers to cover the entire cost of weight loss programs that meet or exceed the task force’s standards, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The task force recommends “intensive, multicomponent behavioral interventions” to get patients to drop their weight to what the government considers acceptable.
In counseling newspeak, interventions are either direct and involve a confrontational meeting with the individual in question, or indirect and involve work with a co-dependent family to encourage them to be more effective in helping the individual, according to a write-up on Wikipedia.
If Obamacare manages to clear the Supreme Court hurdle later this week, Medicare and private health care insurers will be forced to cover weight loss programs. In other words, “interventions” will become the norm as health care providers obey requirements established by the government.
Cross your fingers and hope Obamacare goes down in flames – or prepare for an intervention by the Fat Gestapo if you happen to fall in the overweight column as determined by the government and its bureaucratic task force.
