The quake, centered near La Habra, caused furniture to tumble, pictures to fall off walls and glass to break. Merchandise fell off store shelves, and there were reports of plate glass windows shattered.Why this particular earthquake is of such concern is because it occurred along the Puente Hills fault line. According to one seismologist, this is the fault line that would be most likely to “eat L.A.”…
In Brea, several people suffered minor injuries during a rock slide that overturned their car. Fullerton reported seven water main breaks. Carbon Canyon Road was closed.
Residents across Orange and Los Angeles counties and the Inland Empire reported swinging chandeliers, fireplaces dislodging from walls and lots of rattled nerves. The shake caused a rock slide in Carbon Canyon, causing a car to overturn, according to the Brea Police Department.
Experts said that the earthquakes occurred on the Puente Hills thrust fault, which stretches from the San Gabriel Valley to downtown Los Angeles.The fact that this fault appears to be waking up is really bad news.
Last night’s quake was shallow, which ‘means the shaking is very concentrated in a small area,’ said Caltech seismologist Egill Hauksson.
Hauksson revealed that the earthquake was unusual because the 5.1 quake was preceded by the weaker foreshock.
Scientists such as Hauksson are very concerned about the Puente Hills fault because it runs directly under downtown Los Angeles.
‘This is the fault that could eat L.A.,’ seismologist Sue Hough told The LA Times in 2003.

Scientists sound alarm as Fukushima radiation is detected on British Columbia's coast
(NaturalNews) Canadian scientists and authorities, as well as local
residents, are alarmed at the discovery of radioactive metal in the
Fraser Valley that came from Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant, as they
voiced concerns recently about the long-term impact of radiation along
British Columbia's west coast.
According to The Vancouver Sun,
an examination of soil taken from Kilby Provincial Park, near Agassiz,
has -- for the first time -- turned up cesium-134, which is further
evidence that radioactivity from the crippled Fukushima plant is
reaching the North American west coast, both by air and by sea, local
experts said.
"That was a surprise," Juan Jose Alava, an adjunct
professor in the school of resource and environmental management at
Simon Fraser University (SFU), told the Sun. "It means there are still emissions... and trans-Pacific air pollution. It's a concern to us. This is an international issue."
Reactors
at the Fukushima plant were badly damaged by a major tsunami on March
11, 2011. The tsunami was caused by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake. Reports
have said that between 16,000 and 19,000 people were killed.
Contamination is low - for now
Cesium-134
has a half-life of about two years. That means its radioactivity level
is reduced by half during that period of time. Still, its presence on
Canada's west coast is disturbing.
A more dangerous radioactive
compound, cesium-137, is a bigger danger to humans and plant life. It
has a half-life of 30 years, and it can accumulate in the food chain.
As reported by the Sun:
Researchers
developed a model based on the diet of fish-eating killer whales along
with the levels of Cesium 137 detected and predicted (less than 0.5
becquerels per cubic metre, a measurement of radioactivity) by other
researchers in the Pacific waters offshore of Vancouver Island.
The
models suggests that in 30 years, Cesium 137 levels in the whales will
exceed the Canadian guideline of 1,000 becquerels per kilogram for
consumption of seafood by humans -- 10 times the Japanese guideline.
"It's
a reference, the only benchmark we have to compare against," Alava
said, adding that government cutbacks have meant that academics,
non-governmental organizations and even private citizens have had to do
more of the aquatic testing for radioactivity.
"The Canadian
government is the one that should be doing something, should be taking
action to keep monitoring to see how these contaminants are behaving,
what are the levels, and what is next," Avala said.
In fact, it
was a Canadian citizen, Aki Sano, who provided SFU with the soil sample
from Kilby Park. Sano turned it over on Nov. 16.
Though the soil
tested positive for cesium-134, the levels are believed to be low,
though the exact amount is unknown. Soil sampling from Burnaby Mountain,
closer to Vancouver, is planned next.
Alava noted that the Fukushima
plant continues to leak radiation, meaning that the problem is
persisting. "There's going to be a long-term exposure to organisms
building up in the marine environment," he said.

crippled plant was leaking 300 million gallons of contaminated water a

During a press conference in the
Netherlands today, Obama said he is more worried about Manhattan getting
nuked than any supposed threat posed by Russia.
The president made the remark after a
reporter asked him if former challenger Mitt Romney was correct in his
assertion that Russia is once again the primary foe of the United States
following Crimeans voting to rejoin Russia.
“Russia’s actions are a problem. They
don’t pose the No. 1 national security threat to the United States. I
continue to be much more concerned when it comes to our security with
the prospect of a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan,” Obama said.
Obama did not elaborate on the threat.
North Korea has threatened to nuke the United States on several occasions. Last April, the Defense Intelligence Agency
concluded with “moderate confidence” North Korea has a nuclear weapon
small enough to be loaded on a ballistic missile. However, according to
the DIA, the reliability of the missile would be low.
The previous December South Korea, for obvious reasons, said North Korea had developed the technology capable of delivering a nuclear weapon to the West Coast of the United States.
Experts, however, said at the time the hereditary communist state is
years away from miniaturizing a nuclear weapon and mounting it on a
ballistic missile.
California is approximately 3,000 miles
from Manhattan. In order to nuke New York, the North Koreans would
require a missile capable of traveling around 9,000 miles.
The next suspect on the Axis of Evil list
the government has claimed for over a decade wants to do us harm is
Iran. It currently does not have a nuclear bomb and, in fact, has not
enriched uranium to the level required for a bomb, and also does not possess a missile capable of striking the United States. In January, Secretary of State John Kerry insisted Iran has pledged to stop stockpiling uranium.
After the September 11, 2001 attacks, the government and various commentators told us on numerous occasions al-Qaeda has planted nukes around the United States and will “kill millions, destroy the economy and fundamentally alter the course of history.”
In 2010, Obama said al-Qaeda is trying to get nukes
and would have “no compunction in using them.” He added if “there was
ever a detonation in New York City, or London, or Johannesburg, the
ramifications economically, politically and from a security perspective
would be devastating.”
U.S. intelligence officials, however, say the al-Qaeda nuclear threat is, at best, a remote possibility.
“At this point, they don’t appear to have
made much progress, but we continue to review every bit of information
that comes in to determine whether they’ve advanced their efforts in any
way whatsoever,” an anonymous intelligence official told CNN
in 2010. “Developing a nuclear device involves a highly sophisticated
technical process, and al-Qaeda doesn’t seem to have mastered it based
on what we know now.”
Obama apparently does not consider Russia
a threat, although it currently has around 45,000 nuclear weapons and a
sophisticated ballistic missile system.
Russia, according to Obama, is a
“regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors, not
out of strength, but out of weakness.”
Obama made the
remark while speaking with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte after a
nuclear security summit in The Hague. Russia attended the summit and endorsed the meeting’s final statement on enhancing nuclear security.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Rogozin
threatened to use nuclear weapons if Moscow was attacked. He made the
remark following discussions about missile defense systems installed in
Eastern Europe by the United States.
“One can experiment as long as one wishes
by deploying non-nuclear warheads on strategic missile carriers,”
Rogozin said. “But one should keep in mind that if there is an attack
against us, we will certainly resort to using nuclear weapons in certain
situations to defend our territory and state interests.”

This comment has to be one of the most insanely scientifically illiterate comments
yet made about Flight 370, by any news source. It's even more
preposterous than the idea that Flight 370 might have been plucked out
of the sky by aliens. Why? Because the aliens theory is at least
physically possible based on advanced alien technology a million years
ahead of our own, while the "black hole" explanation is complete bunk
because the entire planet would have been sucked into the black hole
(and therefore CNN would finally be off the air and stop polluting the
cosmos with its broadcasts).
Not to be outdone by the remarkable
ignorance of Don Lemon, Mary Schiavo, former Inspector General for the
U.S. Department of Transportation, added this amazing gem: "A small
black hole would suck in our entire universe, so we know it's not that."
I'm
still trying to figure out which of these comments is more stupid. As
anyone familiar with astrophysics knows, a small black hole does not
"suck in our entire universe," otherwise there would not be a universe
because the universe is full of black holes. I am astonished that a former top executive of the U.S. Dept. of Transportation does not understand basic cosmology.
Black
holes are not magical devices. They are incredibly high-density,
high-mass objects whose gravitational pull is so strong that even rays
of light cannot escape them. (Yes, light is subject to the laws of
gravity, too.) For a black hole to have sucked in Flight 370, it would
have also sucked in Earth, the moon and almost certainly our own sun and
outer planets, too. Perhaps what Shiavo meant to say is that a small
black hole would "suck in our entire solar system" -- a somewhat
rational comment, depending on the velocity and mass of the black hole
in question. Then again, black holes don't actually "suck" anything.
They bend the fabric of spacetime, causing objects to "fall" toward
them. The sun does the same thing on a less dramatic scale, which is why
the Earth orbits the sun rather than moving in a straight line into
deep space.
Of course, I have also taken guesses at what happened
to Flight 370, asking in one article whether "supernatural causes"
might have to be invoked. But even in that article, I concluded, "As
someone who is trained in the sciences, I remain very skeptical that
Flight 370 vanished for supernatural reasons."
Had I suggested
that Flight 370 was "sucked in by a black hole," I'm sure the entire
Natural News readership would have laughed their heads off at such a
stupid comment. Yet when CNN says it, it's almost as if such stupidity
is entirely expected. In other words, no one is surprised that CNN journalists are scientifically illiterate.

A small group of researchers at Medical University of South Carolina
discovered something that's useful for anyone willing to properly
consume lots of garlic. They discovered that certain organo-sulfur
compounds in garlic do kill brain cancer cells without disturbing
healthy cells.
But they did this in 2007! It didn't get much mainstream press, if any.
Did we miss something? Maybe Big Pharma is trying to figure out how to
create those compounds synthetically to get a patent and pay the FDA for
approval after offering dubious papers from sketchy trials.
Whether
it's useful for the cancer industry remains to be seen. But the results
of this study haven't received much if any attention from the
mainstream press. Apparently, there wasn't even a ripple within the

explore natural methods of nipping brain cancer in the bud, the cancer
industry encourages beginning "proven medical treatments" as early as
possible. Treatments like surgery, radiation and chemotherapy offer 15

The researchers were attempting to determine the mechanics of how these compounds were so protective.
They
found out how and more. They isolated the exact mechanics, detailed in
the full study text below, and determined that these compounds are more
than protective. They do what currently accepted brain cancer
treatments are supposed to do but don't, while leaving other healthy
cells alone which those "standard of care" treatments also don't.
It's
recommended that one peels open garlic cloves and exposes them to air
for 15 minutes or so to release those compounds. Some even say crush
them for more exposure, then consume them raw to get the full benefits.
This may not seem inviting to most. But is sure beats a slow agonizing
