Devvy Kidd -- Will you support American companies and workers this Christmas?

Several weeks before Halloween retailers began the push for Christmas. While I don't watch TV commercials, I see by channel surfing here and there in evening down time, which isn't much, the Christmas commercials are running full speed.

Christmas is celebrated as the birth date of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Along the way, it has turned into a national spending frenzy with the pressure put on to spend long before you even buy your Thanksgiving turkey.

I am not out to change "the season", but as I do throughout the year, I ask you to please support American companies and jobs for Americans with your consumer dollars. The usual retort I get is you can't find Made in USA. That simply isn't true. You can and I do when I need to make a purchase. Granted, it takes longer than running down to a "big box" store like China Mart (Wal Mart) who long ago sold the soul of that company to our mortal enemy, the communist Chinese.

Don't buy the clever marketing about "free" trade bringing you "cheap" products. Yeah, they're cheap made by slave labor in communist China, but what are you really buying? Cheap sweaters with fur woven from dogs skinned alive. Oh, you won't read that on the label, but rest assured, that fur is found in sweaters, parkas and hats sold here in the U.S. How can that be? By shipping the fur to other barbaric countries and cheating on all the customs forms; the finished product ends up here on store shelves.

While I don't do a lot of shopping, I had the occasion to visit Dillard's Department Store in Midland, Texas recently. I walked around and looked at ladies dresses, sweaters and dress pants. The price tag for Made in China vs USA were virtually identical on the items I could compare. The difference being the garment Made in USA keeps an American employed.

The outlaws in the U.S. Senate recently approved yet another "free" trade agreement that will kill off more American jobs. Way back in 1994, I read, The Pooring of America: Competition & the Myth of Free Trade by Dr. Ravi Batra. An outstanding prediction of what was to hit America: free trade killing off nearly eight million good paying jobs since 1995. A couple of years ago I read another outstanding book, America's Protectionist Takeoff 1815-1914: The Neglected American School of Political Economy by Michael Hudson, quoting: "The lesson is to adopt the protectionist policies of the late 19th and early 20th centuries that made America an economic superpower".

Don't listen to the propaganda about how evil protectionism is when it comes to our most important job sectors: agriculture, manufacturing and industrial. "Free" trade has killed what made America the most prosperous debt free country in the history of the world. Now we are little more than beggars to third world and communist countries producing that which we used to produce and kept the money here in the U.S. Fair trade works for everyone. "Free" trade will continue to destroy our republic and further reduce our economy to service oriented penury. Instead of talk radio hosts spending their time beating Obama/Soetoro's dead legacy into the ground, how about getting Dr. Batra and Michael Hudson as guests and start educating the American people about this critical issue?
