US judge arrested buying drugs for his stripper girlfriend in FBI sting - Telegraph
Senior US District Judge Jack T Camp, 67 was detained in Atlanta, Georgia after he allegedly handed an undercover agent $160 (£100) for cocaine.
He was also accused of trying to buy Roxycodone, a narcotic pain medication, that he intended to use with the stripper.
The charges against the judge were laid out in a shocking eight-page affidavit.
It recorded how he met the stripper, who was an FBI informant, at the Goldrush Showbar in Atlanta early this year.
He was alleged to have begun paying her for sex and buying cocaine from her.
Last week he was said to have gone with her to a public car park to meet a drug dealer, who was in fact an FBI agent.
When the stripper suggested she was worried about her safety, the judge allegedly told her: "I not only have my little pistol, I've got my big pistol, so we'll take care of any problems that come up."
He then handed over the money and was arrested by agents who found two guns in the front seat of his car.
The judge faces four drug-related charges and one count of possessing firearms while illegally using drugs.
Camp, a Vietnam veteran, was appointed to the bench by Ronald Reagan in 1987.
He appeared for a brief court hearing wearing a pinstripe suit and was released on bail.
William Morrison, his lawyer, said the judge would plead not guilty. He added: "This is really a case between Judge Camp and his wife. It's not about Judge Camp being a judge. It's about him being a husband.
"Judge Camp's wife is an extraordinarily strong woman and she's going to stand by her husband, and this is a very strong man. He's going to overcome these circumstances."
Because of Judge Camp's position on the bench all local judges recused themselves and one had to be flown in from Alabama to hear the case.
Federal prosecutors from Washington DC also had to be flown in to handle the government's arguments.
