From Gitmo to Bermuda: Not a Bad Upgrade -- Politics Daily:
"Oh, to be a Uighur on a sunny afternoon, enjoying an ice cream treat on the beautiful island of Bermuda -- except for the part about having to endure seven years at Guantanamo.
Four Uighur Muslim men, from an ethnic minority in China, don't seem to be holding a grudge against anyone or any country. They're content to take a swim in the ocean and accept good wishes from Bermudans proud of their home's hospitality. In a New York Times article and accompanying slide show, they pose all smiles against a backdrop of cotton-candy-colored buildings.
The men's circuitous path to Guantanamo shows how tricky this business of identifying and detaining dangerous people can be. They escaped what they describe as persecution in Western China and ended up in a camp in Afghanistan. They fled bombing there, only to be turned into the Americans by Pakistani villagers. The reward the villagers received may or may not have had anything to do with it.
Despite being cleared as a threat to America, the men, part of a larger group of Uighurs, had trouble finding a country to take them in, except maybe China, which had its own motives in welcoming them home."
