Radiation From Fukushima Would Take 7 Days To Reach U.S.
Prevailing wind conditions would send fallout drifting towards west coast cities

Radioactive particles from the stricken Fukushima nuclear facility would take around a week to reach Alaska and eleven days to reach Los Angeles, according to an Accuweather.com analysis, which highlights the fact that prevailing winds over the region would send any potential fallout from the crisis-hit plant drifting towards west coast cities in the United States
Given the fact that many analysts believe the Japanese government is grossly understating the amount of radioactive particles released by the two separate explosions to affect the Fukushima plant, one which occurred Saturday and one earlier today, monitoring stations in Alaska will not know if there is a threat from such radiation until Saturday at the earliest.
“Radiation detected at the Fukushima plant on Monday is twice the maximum seen so far,” the BBC is reporting, citing Kyodo News.
An Accuweather.com analysis highlights how prevailing wind trajectories would take the radiation from a westerly direction towards the west coast of the United States.
“A typical wind trajectory across the Pacific is westerly, since there is often a large dome of high pressure over the central Pacific and an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Alaska,” writes meteorologist Meghan Evans.
Today’s localized winds are set to carry any radiation out into the Pacific from a north westerly to south easterly direction. However, “The wind direction will switch to an onshore direction Monday night into Tuesday, threatening to send the radiation toward the population,” writes Evans.
“This is not good news, since an onshore direction would blow most of the radiation toward populated areas. An added threat is that with higher elevations just about 4 miles inland from the power plants, if a temperature inversion sets up in the atmosphere, radiation could be trapped.”
The worst case scenario is that localized winds could take the fallout south to Tokyo, and the prevailing westerly winds could also carry upper atmosphere particles towards the U.S.
It would take roughly seven days for the radiation to reach Anchorage, eight days until it reached Honolulu, ten days for Seattle and eleven days before it hit Los Angeles, according to figures calculated by Expert Senior Global Meteorologist Jim Andrews.
Assurances from officials that any radiation would dissipate over the Pacific Ocean before reaching the United States are tenuous given the fact that pollution from Chinese coal factories, traveling significantly greater distances, routinely hits California.
“Previous studies have documented that dust from Asia — especially from deserts and industrial regions of China — routinely crosses the Pacific Ocean on prevailing winds to sully the air over the western U.S.,” highlights Massie Santos Ballon, a student in the Science Communication Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has also studied how, “About a third of the airborne lead particles recently collected at two sites in the San Francisco Bay Area came from Asia.”
Weather conditions will hugely influence where any potential radiation falls. If there is a significant amount of rainfall, which has been forecast for the next few days, the majority of the radiation will fall in a localized area. However, drier conditions will allow any radiation to travel much further.
As we featured in our earlier report, nuclear expert Joe Cirincione also fears that radiation from the Japanese nuclear plant could also reach the west coast.
When Fox News host Chris Wallace questioned whether radioactivity could travel thousands of miles across the Pacific, Cirincione responded, “Oh, absolutely. Chernobyl, which happened about 25 years ago, the radioactivity spread around the entire northern hemisphere. It depends how many of these cores melt down and how successful they are on containing it once this disaster happens.”
Concern surrounding the likely path of any radiation is emphasized by the fact that the French embassy is now, “Advising its citizens to leave Tokyo and its surroundings in case a cloud of radiation heads to the city.

Guatemalans to sue US government for secretly infecting them with syphilis
(NaturalNews) Last fall, it became widely public that the US government deliberately infected roughly 700 Guatemalans with syphilis in a 1940s experiment on the effectiveness of penicillin (http://www.naturalnews.com/029924_m…). Now, those involved in the experiment and their families are planning to sue the US government for damages unless it agrees to properly settle the issue outside of court.
The experiment represents just one of a long line of heinous medical experimentation projects conducted by the US government against human beings, including a similar syphilis experiment conducted on 600 black men in Tuskegee, Ala., between 1932 and 1972. Researchers in that case tricked the men into accepting “free medical care,” and purposely infected them with the disease. They then denied these men treatment while observing their health digression. The incident has been dubbed “the longest non-therapeutic experiment on human beings in medical history” (http://www.infoplease.com/spot/bhmt…).
* A d v e r t i s e m e n t

And the Guatemalan incident is believed to be an offshoot of the Tuskegee experiment because US officials realized there would be less scrutiny and oversight in the foreign land — and thus less opportunity to get caught for their activity. But the truth has now come to light, and those responsible may finally have to face justice for their crimes.
Attorneys Andres Alonso and Terrence Collingsworth, the two men heading the Guatemalan case, have given the Obama administration until Friday, March 11, to respond to the settlement offer, or else the two plan to file a class-action lawsuit on behalf of the victims and their families.
“We have decided to create one opportunity to see if we can settle the issues presented in this tragic situation without involving the judicial process,” said Alonso and Collingsworth in a letter to US Attorney General Eric Holder.
If the Obama administration refuses the offer, plaintiffs plan to proceed with the suit which says that the US government violated the defendants’ human rights by subjecting them to “cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.”

Cooling System At Third Fukushima Reactor Fails
(Reuters) - A quake-hit Japanese nuclear plant reeling from an explosion at one of its reactors has also lost its emergency cooling system at another reactor, Japan's nuclear power safety agency said on Sunday.
The emergency cooling system is no longer functioning at the No.3 reactor at Tokyo Electric Power Co's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility, requiring the facility to urgently secure a means to supply water to the reactor, an official of the Japan Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency told a news conference.
On Saturday, an explosion blew off the roof and upper walls of the building housing the facility's No. 1 reactor, stirring alarm over a possible major radiation release, although the government later said the explosion had not affected the reactor's core vessel and that only a small amount of radiation had been released.
The nuclear safety agency official said there was a possibility that at least nine individuals had been exposed to radiation, according to information gathered from municipal governments and other sources. (Reporting by Risa Maeda; Editing by Edmund Klamann)

Japanese Nuclear Meltdown Confirmed: Severity and Path of Fallout Unknown

As we accurately reported earlier today, the explosion at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan was the result of a nuclear meltdown of the reactor core at the facility.
Japanese Nuclear Meltdown Confirmed: Severity and Path of Fallout Unknown jetstream
The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) confirmed the meltdown Saturday afternoon. Fukushima is one of the 25 largest nuclear power stations in the world. The NISA is affiliated with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
High levels of cesium and iodine, by-products of nuclear fission, are being reported and providing more evidence that a nuclear meltdown is currently underway.
It is now certain Japan is experiencing a Chernobyl event. “At this point, events in Japan bear many similarities to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Reports indicate that up to 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) of the reactor fuel was exposed. The reactor fuel appears to have at least partially melted, and the subsequent explosion has shattered the walls and roof of the containment vessel – and likely the remaining useful parts of the control and coolant systems,” Stratfor explains.
“Given the large quantity of irradiated nuclear fuel in the pool, the radioactivity release could be worse than the Chernobyl nuclear reactor catastrophe of 25 years ago,” said Kevin Camps, a nuclear waste specialist.
Prior to the explosion of the containment structure, exposure rates outside the plant were at about 620 millirems per hour. Radiation exposure for the average individual is 620 millirems per year. Virtually any increase in ambient radiation can raise long-term cancer rates, and authorities distributed iodine, which helps protect against thyroid cancer, The Oregonian reports.
As the image above illustrates, the prevailing jet stream moves from Japan to the United States across the Pacific Ocean. Airborne radiation would work its way into the jet stream and reach the United States in less than 36 hours. Jet streams flow from west to east in the upper portion of the troposphere.
Bt downplaying this serious disaster, the Japanese government is not only endangering its own people, but also millions of people in the United States and Canada.
The cover-up by the Japanese government provides more evidence that government cannot be trusted to safeguard the lives of its citizens.

A massive explosion has rocked a Japanese nuclear power plant
Editor’s note: Japan has now declared an emergency at two nuclear power plants. Five nuclear units are in trouble. Prime Minister Naoto Kan said he is sending 50,000 troops in for a “massive, military-led rescue operation” in the area. Local media in Japan say the stricken plant “may be experiencing nuclear meltdown.” The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said Saturday that radioactive cesium has been detected, indicating that the plant’s nuclear core has been exposed.
A massive explosion has rocked a Japanese nuclear power plant after Friday’s devastating earthquake.
A huge pall of smoke was seen coming from the plant at Fukushima and several workers were injured.
Japanese officials say the container housing the reactor was not damaged and that radiation levels have now fallen.
A huge relief operation is under way after the 8.9-magnitude earthquake and tsunami, which is thought to have killed at least 1,000 people.
The offshore earthquake triggered a tsunami which wreaked havoc on Japan’s north-east coast, sweeping far inland and devastating a number of towns and villages.

NASA Confirms Toxic Dispersants DID Rain On Gulf Coast
Remember how all the conspiracy nuts claimed the chemicals BP was dumping in the water might actually evaporate into the air and then rain down on the Gulf States, poisoning land, water, and of course, people?
And remember how the government officials said, “No, no, no! That could NEVER happen. Not to worry! … But we’re not going to let scientists look at the data we’ve collected…”
And how people kept turning up with what looked like chemical sickness, even though it was (of course) impossible?
It wasn’t impossible. A NASA scientist has started releasing some of that hitherto unavailable data. And it’s not pretty.
The data being released, which was collected by the NASA missions to the Gulf, shows that the toxic compounds released from the BP spill became airborne, and significant quantities were brought onshore by precipitation, thereby exposing coastal populations to chemical poisoning. This represents something new and unique not observed in previous oil spills. It helps explain why there were numerous reports by people living along the Gulf Coast that it was raining oil and dispersant during the summer months.
“The data we collected in the atmosphere shows a very high hydrocarbon load and we were able to identify more than 100 compounds in it. Many of them have health implications. There were large amounts of them and they have similarities to gasoline. In that regard the modeling I did seems to suggest that there are reasons for concern. There are reasons to do additional research.”
The scientist: Ira Leifer, Ph.D from University of California Santa Barbara. He was The Chief Mission Coordinating Scientist on the NASA remote sensing mission to the BP oil spill in the Gulf Of Mexico, and he’s a ten-year veteran of oil spills (as well as natural methane bubble flows).
What was so different about the BP spill? He laid it out for Jerry Cope at the Huffington Post;
* Volume of dispersants: Previous spills were small, leading to one-day exposures. The BP exposure lasted months.
* Seeing it in the rain: “People at California Oil Spill who have done testing on burning have never seen anything like that. But you don’t have 102% humidity in California.”
And the problems are unprecedented as well:
* Most cleanup workers were not wearing masks or other protection.
* We don’t know what their exposure levels were, since no measurements were taken.
* We don’t know the risks, because for these toxins, no long-term tests have been done.
* “The big worry is pregnant women and the elderly — at risk populations. In that regard, at-risk populations, the levels seem to suggest there could be really severe concern for the health-related impacts.”
* If we don’t deal with this wisely, there’s a danger that we’ll see a “mysterious Gulf Coast Health Syndrome appearing five years from now that nobody figures out what it is until 10 years from now with a lot of people getting sick and very ill in the interim.”
